Vic , your getting so good lately. This was absolutely brilliant brother. I loved your timing on this animation. It has this slow pace to it like the old Tom and Jerry cartoons. You have a great eye for tying everything together and lets not forget about the small detail. Having Foster re-dip the 3 hooks a few times really made a big difference. It's the little stuff like that that delivers home. Great work.

Here are your well deserved 2 silver talent points as well as a feature spot.

You're log has been updated. You are currently at 4 Silver and 4 Bronze. http://www.animationforum.net/forum/showthread.php?t=631

Holy crap! Thanks for the kind words folks. :D I worked on that sucker for three weeks. Glad it got a chuckle. Front paged and silver...wahoooo! A big thank you for that.:D :D

Noob, I tried to submit it on Newgrounds but the animation is almost, gulp, 6 megs! Is there a way I can compress my cartoon so they can accept it? The limit is 5 megs. I'm more than happy to link to this bunch.:) I already have a purdy button on my site (http://www.geocities.com/vicperryart/index.html) linked to here. I'll spread the word around everywhere.

Thanks again. You all made my day. :)

Man you guys sure know how to humble a fella. Thanks a bunch man, really. I'm going to take the most pride in the fact that Robber thinks it was awesome. In a few years my cartoons will look like chicken scratches when he kicks into full gear.

If I don't get something out of one of these job interviews I've been going to, I'll be spending lots of months as the only full time animator with no income.:D

More a comin' folks.

Three weeks? WOW! Did you use the brush tool at any time? It looks an aweful lot like the pen tool and looks very neat.
Keep it up!

yaargh! you can compress it by lowering the sound qaulity, thats always the thing that makes it huge...

or,quote from newgrounds faq

Q: The Portal won't accept my movie because it "exceeds the file size limit."

A: The Portal has a 5MB file size limit. We set this limit to encourage more optimized Flash. If we feel your movie is not optimized, and is wasting space, we may delete it. Do not make a 150k flash movie and add a 2-3MB MP3 file! Just remember, Pico is only 300k! If you have something over 5MB that you feel is more than just stick figures shooting each other, you can e-mail it to me and I will post it manually.

Rage: Yes, I used the pen tool for all my outlines and the brush to fill it in.

Noob: Thanks for the info. I'll recheck my swf first and if I can't figure out how to optimize it, I'll email buddy. I converted all the mp3s to .wavs but they're still big. Gotta get moving on it.

How did you get the pen tool to look so smooth? I read somewhere you use the 'ink' mode of it... but how the hell can you keep it from being all jagged?

Yeah I meant pencil tool. Don't worry, Vic. I got it nailed down. ;)

Okay, I really thought wavs were smaller than mp3s. No freakin' wonder my cartoon is so big. Thanks for clearing that up! I'll definitely fix that!

And yes, I did mean pencil tool also. I usually set the lines at smooth for larger shapes like the head, arms, legs, etc, and change to "ink" for smaller stuff. I'm sure jaggedness depends on your tablet sensitivity. If you have a Wacom, the lines will be smoother than if you're using a Bic pen wired up to a toaster with a USB cord attached. Tape a doorbell button to your Bic pen and wire it with electrical tape to a Radio shack battery. It makes a great mouse button. (oh oh, I can see a Cartuneman sketch coming with that idea!)

That is hilarious Vic!! Love the worm animations, and the final breakdown when he loses it and snaps his rod! Great stuff!!
I was wondering about his fishing technique though.....I do a lot of fishing, both fly fishing and spinner....never seen anyone use a fly rod with bait though ;) Made it funnier still! Also like your intro animation :)

vicjperry
05-15-2006, 02:05 AM
Yeah bud. I fly fish too but never used bait. LOL! But then again, I've never been on the river and seen a snorkling cat with sissors. I'd be worried that they'd rust.:D :D :D
