Dunno why i didn't make this earlier, heres the thread where i will post sketches everyday even if it kills me.

this is an Open Thread so feel free to join me in the sketch o rama.

You can post more than one sketch a day,but if your joining in,at least try to post a sketch every other day.Digital or trad.I'm probably gunna be doin this digital since my scanner broke.

welcome mon,hehe,nice sketch,

and yeh, make a sketch a day, even if you thinks its crap post it anyway, you'll be able too see your progression.

try to use long whisps, and try to not repeat over lines you already drew.

Monsieur Rat
05-14-2006, 11:56 AM
Heh yeah, I just tend to do that, cuz i hate to see gaps between lines, and so i redraw without removing the original line, it never really helps though...

I'm going to stratford-upon-avon for mostly all of next week so i wont be around to submit then, but ill post some **** when i get back to make up for it all, maybe some sketches of **** i see while i'm there, i dunno....

NOOB!

jab go fish out sum anatomy books, your body doesn't seem to have volume, its looks flat, nice attempt though..your improving.thanks for liking my stuff btw

vic thanks man,i like all dramatic lighting and stuff.

kave...when you finish a picture and its all on one layer (photoshop i'm talking about here),

1.duplicate the layer,

2.on layer above ,apply a guassian blur of about 5.0,(filter >blur > gaussian blur)

3.with that same layer selected, change the blending mode of that layer to hard light. and you have your glare look.

you may need to adjust the brightness of that layer afterwards...

and i'd like to animate something like this eventually, unfortunately i lack the skill of clean up in animation lol.

Mr nonsense, fricken excellent work, love teh lips

mr wonka, use long strokes against the paper, use your wrist to draw curves. What u have here is what i like to call repetative syndrome where an artist draws a line, then repeats over that line with a longer line, then repeats over that line with a longer line and so on.lol

its like...you just drew that line, why draw it again? its makes your stuff look hairy, don't worry though its pretty common,it may hard to adjust into making quick strokes. But do it.

*this is why animators discs rotate,to make it easier for quick lines, don't be afraid to rotate you paper at times*

......................

and hey guys lol,i need to reload windows onto my comp so that my scanner works, along with a few others things that just stopped working all of a sudden.

August
06-05-2006, 11:43 AM
I used to do the same but some guy gave me a good so now I don't do it too much anymore. when you sketch stuff for practise and so on, use tools that you can't erase like ballpoint pens or markers or sumthin sumthin, It learned me to make one line where there was only supposed to be one line.
It a big step to beeing better at drawing. or so it was for me

NOOB!
06-05-2006, 11:54 AM
yeh thats something i forgot to mention actually.

allot of classes *like life drawing classes* ask you to use pen or not bring an eraser, this teachs you to draw whats important first, and also makes you think about where your putting a line. You know u can't erase so you spend more time thinking about *where do i want this line?* *do i need this line here?* etc.

good practice;)

dlpwillywonka
06-05-2006, 01:00 PM

Greg, one of the things that impresses me most in the artworld, is when someone scribbles a few quick lines and it tells the story, or portrays the scene perfectly. I would have to draw for hours, slapping in every detail to get the scene to show what you do with a few lines.

Very impressive my friend.

Here's what I drew in school... I didn't have much to do, 4 days left and all.
I guess it counts as a "daily sketch".

Im quitting my work as a model-carpenter at the concrete factory next week.
So instead of baking them a cake like most of them do, I drew a caricature sketch of all the ones ive been working with as a suprise (Some young ones, but most of them are 40-60+ in age) some of them don't even know I draw in my sparetime, so it would be a little suprise to them aswell

Maby some of the faces arent realy that well drawn, but I think it goes up with the likness of the person. I never laughed at my own drawings, but I did for this one. Some of them reminds me so much of the ones I worked with ^^ I just cant stop laughing=)

Robber - Man you have reall been improving my friend. Your art work shows a lot of maturity compared to a few months ago.

Anthony - Man, thats one awsome charicature. I especailly like the thick outer lines. Your lines have gotten way cleaner. Rock On.

Even better, Its harder doing clean traditional lines. Digitally I always have the Undo button.

If you mess up in the line-art work you can always fix it up in PS or whatever program you use.

Which I forgot to do in this image. BOOM!:Xead: BOOM!:Xead:

ok fellas and gals,

I had to do a sketch today this is a sketch I drew of my wife "Samantha" This is how I remember her in my mind everyday and I was missing her a lil today. All I had was a sharpie so forgive the roughness of this pic.
