What about watercolors? lol
http://www.theemptyoffice.net/Pictures/sketchdump/WCsupes.jpg
So bad. I'm still experimenting with WC's. Eventually I want to do alot of my backgrounds in Watercolor.
Terro

I've recentl gotten into watercolors. My new way of using painter is just Digital Watercolors with a 10% oppacity and Acrilics. It's a great medium just have t get used to it. When I first tried it out, I was very discouraged and decided I wouldn't touch WC. Now here I am a few months later using WC as the base to all my stuff.
The pig in my Art Dump Thread is mostly WC.
PS: Plus a Wacom is a must have.
dlpwillywonka
05-26-2006, 04:27 PM
ha you don't need to encourage me to use WC. Bill Watterson already convinced me more than anybody else ever could. :)

:D thats nice bleu,i think the purples in the trees are a little too intense, though i know what u where going for.
anyway, painting is similar as drawing, the best way to understand colour it to paint from life.
Monsieur Rat
09-06-2006, 09:21 AM
Though I agree the purple does seem a LITTLE to intense or maybe too saturated, I refuse to let him remove that colour from the equation. I love the effect of a strong, though not neccesarily intruding, purple as a shadow.
NOOB!
09-06-2006, 09:36 AM
yeh i'm not suggesting he lose the purples, most shadows are cooler,so a blue-violet would work better.
u also have to remember that a tree won't just change colour in shadow,if the tree its brown, its still brown in shadow...so mix in some brown into that violet.
I never use the colour picker, but thats cos i'm used to painting traditionally.yuuum mixing....thats what i like about corel painter

Lovely work Blue. I love the tunnel work. Tha furthes part o fthe tunnel where the light comes out of is my favorite because it shows a lot of detail. The little hightlights there did a lot for the composition. Next time around, try to place some more of those highlights around the cave where the light should hit it. It will give it a lot more contrast. Over all great work.

I dig that B. The stone detail on the pillar/entrance looks pretty realistic. The clouds could be a little softer. As well as some real quick fog/sand in the far view to create some distance. I hope you don't mind I did a little alteration to it to show you what I mean.
http://www.gk-concepts.com/filedump/gregalterblue.jpg
I used two tricks here. One is that I use the Diffuse Blur brush from the blenders brush category in Painter. This brush has to be applied to the layer with the cloud paint on them. With in seconds you got realistic looking clouds.
The second little alteration I did that may not be visable is that took a new layer and the Digital Airbrushcategory, increaased its size and just tapped it a few times on the area behind the stone pillar. Then I erased any of the spray that may have landed onto the pillar , leaving in the far distance a little hazed. Not really that noticable but a good technique to create distance.

Nothing much realy.I was trying to get more used to photoshop again. I tried out some new brushes.
So heres some quick speedpaints. All made in 1-5 mins, so they might look a bit abstract maby^^

thanks for the comment.
Here's a short little video where im making those metors and airplanes on the blue sky.
http://www.comlock.net/drawings/clouder.avi
Im using a brush called "clouder" for the clouds. And a knife brush thingy for the other stuff. Its a realy fun brush to paint with.
And you can download the two photoshop brushes here:

Man it's been long since I posted here...I miss Nubian lol.
This self portrait is hardly a speedpaint...at least for me:

First time messing with opacity while painting in photoshop. I gotta say I like the result after a few minutes. Now if I just started the painting with an idea instead of just a brown swirl hehe.

It looks fairly nice, mate. I really dig the colours. As for the clouds, check out Terro's site, and you can find a link to a tutorial on clouds he made. I don't know what you paint in, but alot of programs are fairly similar and I'm sure the concepts are adaptable.

I can't find the original paint with the BG (DADGUMMIT!) man I'm gettin old! I can't remember where I saved it .......so far what you guys think?

don't know if this qualifies as a speed paint but I have 2 and a half hours in this so far.
I like the second one better because it's more clear, I like clear things :p Posterized version hides a lot of great details. Great lion and I love the pose on the female lion - so sexy and rrr (if you know that I mean by that lol) oh and her expression made me smile :) Great job so far cartuneman

Ben. You have a very unique way of painting that seems to make any painting you do interesting. I absolutely love the Zeus as a cab driver. Very funny. On average, how long does it take you too complete one of these?
Thanks! The Zeus one took hours, and it seemed to take quite a while of messing about just to get the rough layout halfway acceptable at the start. The cat took about the same length of time as the film "catch me if you can", though I was only half paying attention to the pic and half to the film so maybe half that time.
