I'm approaching my senior year soon. I'm an animation major at University of the Arts in Philladelphia. I have been up to this point doing mainly traditional animation. However I have discovered I have a knack for 3d CG animation. So this is what I will use for my senior thesis. Possible ideas. I want to explore character based animation, with no speech. Speech make it less universal.

First idea- A scrawny pigeon who goes to great lengths for food in the city. Possiblity for pigeon attacks and funny walk cycles.

Second idea- A bumbling space cadet ventures to the planet X. He will be armed with a tiny lazer gun and a fish bowl helmut (I'm not sure if I should have a fish swimming around or not in there. It may be too much work). He comes across various space creatures. Most benevolent however he doesn't seem to get that. One creature is a monster made out of Space Poo! I would do a 50's B-mobie retro style for the overall look.

I may have more ideas soon, but let me know what you think!

What if you mash them together?

Have a pigeon in some kind of helmet(to breathe, duh) in a city in the future on some planet going through amazing lengths just to eat a single bread crumb. All this done in a B-movie style.

 ;)

I like the idea about the pigeon. I can see that one clearly in my head.

Why don't you make the pigeon the space cadet's sidekick? Like Marvin Martian and his dog. :D

I'm thinking the pigeon could be the second to final monster he fights. Give him something rediculous like a lion growl. The final monster would be a 6 tentacled space woman creature who the hero will act weird around. I want to play off of how guys act around women here too. :D

So for reference material, any suggested 50's space sci-fi? I don't know if Flash Gordon is any good or not.

If you want really bad, some of the sequences in Plan 9 from Outer Space are set in the skies, and those are terrinle and very 50s B movie looking.

So some required viewing would be:

Flash Gordon (not 50's era, but b-movie cheese)
Forbidden Plannet
Plan 9 from Outer Space
killer Tomatoes

Any others? The basic plot I was thinking of was a space cadet is traveling to Mars to fight an evil monster. However he may be attracted to the monster. :D

I thought the idea of a thesis was like a Disitation here, where you have to wright a intilectual and academic report on some kind of theoretical finding? Or is it just like a end of year project over there?
