Every person learning animation wants to become the next big thing and start there own studio with there own tv series and then make there own film.

Almost everyones not gonna do this cause there just isnt the demand for hundreds of new studios. But anyway... that aside... tell us what your plans and dreams and goals are. Be honest... if you plan to be the next walt disney then say so.

I hope to finish studing... then after that maybe more animation study or hopefully a job or freelance work. In my spare time work on Christain shorts till I got ennough to go into that full time and be supported from them. Although many people say this and dont mean it... I do mean it: Money isnt a problem to me. I can live without much.

Interesting topic Clay... Kudos for posting it!

Well I of course have the same aspirations that we all do, that being to eventually open my own studio and become very rich and famous. However I am more of a realist and recognize the fact that the chances of accomplishing this are slim at best.
Therefor, I would be perfectly content to just make a decent living in some aspect of the industry. Because I waited so long in my life to get into art and animation, I very much doubt that will ever be in a animation role, however I would be just as happy to work at a good studio in some other aspect.

Maybe a janitor? :D

i obviously do not have a career in animation, i see myself realistically as an assistant painter or an inbetweener. my life will suck. i will have too many babies. no income. no luck at the slots. jus bankrupt.

yea probly just freelance until i find a wad of cash under my pillow that i can use for funding my own projects. probly working at cartoon network if i can jus to make a living. my own projects wud b nice, but at the rate 2d animation is going electronically, ther will b bums on the street with signs sayin WILL ANIMATE FOR CIGARETTES :P

I have a little different story. I know that I wont be an official animator and I don't want a studio and a job at a studio. I'm 25, married and working at a Body Shop as a Mechanic 10 hours a day. I did get into Illinois Art Institute but life had other plans for me. I learned and am still learning most of everything from books that I buy. I will most likely never achieve a Bachelors of fine Arts, BUT.......I always had a dream of telling my own story. So if it takes me 20 years to learn enough skillz, and 15 more to accomplish my dream, I will be satisfied.

I'm only in it to satisfy that urge inside me.

well, im still in HS, but i would like to be able to work on a good 3d movie. I would like my ideas to be made into a movie, or perhaps game. Animation is currently a hobby, but I would like to make it a career. I don't have to own a studio, as long as I am apart of it, I will be satisfied.

i love 3D, so i want to learn some programs, after I get use to flash. I dont care about money, as long as i like doing what i do, and Im happy.

Mine is sorta like terro,i want to have an my own original show out,but i don't think i want my own studio,i wouldn't be able to handle it,i like to animate, and if i have my own studio,i won't have time to animate and i'll most likely be directing.so screw that.

i'm still sorting out what i wanna become.lol illusions why join a 2d animation forum if u wanna be a 3der?

I'm launching an abstract think tank called Art Star Collective next year. I don't expect to be the next Walt Disney.. I have some ****ed up works I'll be launching within the next couple of years, and I would be surprised if no one tries to kill me before I'm 40.

My big dream is not to be an animator, though I have fancied to work with the medium quite a lot lately... though I fancy working with a lot of different mediums.. I've been working with filmdirection for some years, had a year where I went more or less offline from the world.. spended all my time with my digitizer.. recustomizing my drawing skills, and now I'm back in track again.. ready to take what I learned with photoshop to a new level with programs like digital fusion..

My big plan is a secret so far.. but it is a very good plan..

mmm well, in my country (Israel) there is a lot of great animation studios, but almost non of them work for their own, like do a TV animation series or films.. most of them making commercials, short animations etc for other companies. one thing i have notice is that there never been an Israeli animation films, so my dream is to make the first one :D but that just a dream.. i'm 14 and my goal is to be an animator and digital drawer, after i'll have my degree (hope so..) i'll decide what to do.. so i have a lot of time to practice my skills :p
p.s:
mmm just a question, animators (let's say a Disney fx animator *ham *Adam*ham*) are well paid? :D

animators get paid quite bit, thats why production costs will always be high.

As far as the payscale, it is really dependant on just what type of animation you are doing. Effects and character animation pay quite well, whereas the normal pay for an inbetweener is slightly better then you will get at McDonalds..... But everyone needs to get there foot in the door somehow, and for a large majority of animators it is as an inbetweener.

i try to practice animation everday though.

Very important quote. Me and Nubian were just talking about it earlier today. I took about a 2 month break working with noob on this forum as well as waiting for my New Pc and a Tablet. I finally had a chance to jump back into photoshop last night and it was a horrid experiance. I lost my flow completely because I did not practice it daily.

I can relate to that. For the duration it took for me to get my podcast rolling (about 3 weeks) I did very little work, either traditional or digital. When I went to start working on a sketch, I was lost! :(
Ideally it should be something you do everyday, its amazingly simple to fall out of the habit and lose your workflow completely.

I Agree with Ori, (good to meet more guys from Israel around here), Most of the studios around here over Israel (there aren’t many..)
Are working with the 3D industry, there are 2 studios that are known and work with the Local TV Stations (barely earning money to pay the bills).
One of the biggest Studios around closed about a year ago, so nothing much left from the “Big Guys”.
As Ori already said, most of their work focuses on commercials and short films.

Anyway, I’m almost 25 years old from Israel,
These days we (me and my small crew) build our own small studio for Digital Paperless Animation, Actually It feels nice to be first in something.
And we are about to start with an original show (can’t tell much about it, sorry you’ll see…).

I actually like to draw since I remember myself, and till these days I worked on my music studio as a producer, but at the last year I understand that I can’t leave the animation on the side so I combine it all together, I’m not saying that it’s easy, actually it’s very hard and more and more people involve in this project but I’m very happy that I actually can see the light.

I used to do 3D Animation (and still do for some cases), but now I’m working hard on 2D because practice and study never ends.
All I know is that I flow with whatever will be, I just hope that people will like the show or any cartoons I’ll create within our new studio
(Still not finished by the way, it’s a lot of work and a long way to go) ….wish me luck. :)
