Toon Boom Studio V3.5 empowers artists with improvements to animation keyframing, asset reuse, lip synchronization and the user interface, so that you can make better animations quicker. Version 3 significantly simplifies the creation of cut-out animation.
User Interface
Toon Boom Studio V3.5 displays a Welcome Screen to get started more quickly. Use it to create a new project, open recent projects, open tutorials and quickly link to Toon Boom Studio resources on the Web.
The new dialog box, New Project, lets you enter the name and animation properties when to create a new animation project.
An improved Timeline interface allows you to view timeline track and layer information more easily. New drawings are represented in the timeline by a 3D box and keyframe markers are more visible in Peg elements and Drawing elements (see the new Animating features for an overview of the new peg system).
The Onion Skin includes the Show Outline on Onion Skin option to represent next and previous drawings as outlines rather than filled shapes. Turn on the onion skin on and off easily with the Turn Onion Skin On/Off button in the Onion Skin toolbar.
The Properties window includes an Edit Velocity button which opens the element’s velocity information in the Function Editor.
Snap changes to 15 degree increments by holding down the [Shift] key while using the Select drawing tool or scene operation tool, the Edit Texture , Transform , Rotate or Motion tool.
Undo and Redo buttons have been added to the toolbar.
Effects
The new Drop Shadow effect allows you to add a shadow to a drawing or a group of drawings and customize its look.
The Color Transform effect includes the option to Flatten the content of a Color Transform effect layer with many elements with different front-back positions.
Sceneplanning Tools
The Select tool (activated from the Sceneplanning Tools menu and the Scene Operation toolbar), in addition to static NS, EW and FB position values of a Drawing or Image element, now sets static rotation, scale and skew values.
The Rotate , Scale , and Skew tools are used exclusively to set dynamic changes of elements.
Drawing
Use the Convert Line to Brush feature to convert centerline shapes to contour shapes.
Contour Editor improvements allow more flexible and intuitive methods to add points, move handles, lines and points.
Inking and Painting
Pen properties for the Eraser can be defined differently than the other drawing tools.
When using the Edit Texture tool, texture and gradient properties can be copied and pasted from one painted zone to another.
Color palettes from other animation projects can be imported into an animation scene.
Color palettes can be exported by selecting one, some or all palettes in an animation project.
Animating
Drawing and Image elements have a built-in peg, to animate changes in motion, rotation, scale and skew.
Peg elements are empty by default, and keyframes can be added at any point. The first keyframe’s values are applied to the frames before it. The last keyframe’s values are applied to the frames after it.
Rendering
OpenGL anti-aliasing is now supported on both Windows and Mac OS X
Toon Boom Studio can be minimized during rendering process.
Import
Use the Import File command to create a new element and import an image, drawing, Flash or sound file into it.
An animation project’s color palettes can be imported from a TBCP file.
Export
The Export Movie dialog box includes an Options button which opens a Settings dialog box specific to the export format you have selected.
The new Export Drawing to PDF feature allows you to create a PDF file of the drawing at the current frame, allowing you another way to share your work or work with it in other applications, such as Adobe Illustrator.
An animation project’s color palettes can be exported to a TBCP file.
