Hey crew, I noticed some of you have been having problems embeding the youtube movies since they changed their embed settings. I'll walk you guys through it.

YouTube gives you a URL of your movie example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fud85fHb7ec

This is the address to the youtube page that displays your movie not the tag it self, so what we must do is get the location of the swf movie it self. There are a few ways to do this but I'll show you the short way.

take the original address of
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fud85fHb7ec
highlight the watch?v=
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fud85fHb7ec (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fud85fHb7ec)
delete and replace it with a v/
http://www.youtube.com/v/fud85fHb7ec (http://www.youtube.com/v/fud85fHb7ec)
Your almost done , all you do now is take this link, copy and paste it into your browser window and press enter. It will redirect you to a new link of just your movie.
You should end up with something like this
http://www.youtube.com/p.swf?video_id=fud85fHb7ec&eurl=&iurl=http%3A//sjl-static6.sjl.youtube.com/vi/fud85fHb7ec/2.jpg&t=OEgsToPDskJsd8Y-fo0YhK-kLPlC0cqS(note: The link you will get is longer then the one displayed on this thread, this forum automatically shortens long links)

This is the link you place in our YouTube tags.

Credit: Simon, I used your URL for this tutorial, hope you don't mind.

Grrr.... this is getting really irritating. :bang:

For some reason whenever I embed videos using the technique listed here... they work fine the first time I view them... but then when I come back to the thread and click on the embedded video YouTube says:

The Video Is No Longer Available

Even though when I got to my YouTube page or follow the direct link all the vids are clearly still available.

What gives?

Is this a VB code problem?
YouTube problem?
Did YouTube change their embed settings again?
Or have I once again managed to screw up an embedded vid? :banghead

It's every vid that I've posted has this problem.

example: http://www.animationforum.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3923

Anyone?

Hey Mambo,

I don't use Tou Tube much, but when I use photobucket & putfile, all I do to embed is copy the url of the vid, paste it in a post here, then highlight it & wrap the red "f" next to the You Tube button. That puts [SWF] tags around it & embeds the vid.
Not sure if the same approach would work from You Tube or not, but worth a try. (or try another video host)

Good Luck either way.

Ah I might have to give that a try...

I think some of my problem with posting YoutTube vids might be I'm too eager to get things posted and I end up posting the YouTube embed before the file is entirely finished processing on the site. Not sure if that is a cause of problems.

But I'm wondering if going with another type of image hosting account (like the ones you mentioned) might be a better way to go.

Generally feedback on YouTube isn't stellar. Lots of people who really have no clue. I guess that's good if your trying to get feedback from Joe Average Numbskull... but not so good when you want concise crits.:D

cheers,
mambo

Yeah I'd use You Tube for a finished animation I want the world to see, but I've never been thrilled with the quality there, & the file size is pretty limited, so I typically use other sites for most of my stuff. For crits & such I definitely don't worry about the internet "at large," that's what places like this are for :)

I have been running into the same type of problem. It's a new YouTube system, they change the address of the movie every day so the embed tag can't connect to it.

I'll do it, but it's crazy. There are a lot of forum sites that work a lot easier than this.

Forgot to mention guys, HTML has been turned on in the WIP and Threater Forums. So you can just Embed the Youtube or any other Video sharing clips by using the code they provide you with.

Just copy and paste. Hope this makes it easier.
