CD 007 : John
DEADLINE: November 9th, 2006
It's back!
This time, I'll run the show and cos the suggestion thread is low on ideas, I took the liberty to think of something. You might not like the initial idea, but you can always take it into crazy directions. And it would be good if you did, because I'll be judging based on how original the characters look and how originally you present them.
The task is, again, to create a character based on the description I'll give you. One piece is enough, it can be a sketch or a full coloured piece, painted, drawn, perhaps done as a collage... you choose the medium.
Anyway, here it goes:
John has a problem with drugs and gambling lately... He hasn't left the children any money for three months now. He's keeping it all to himself.
Still, John loves his work more than anything, so that's why he keeps visiting them.
Dedicated to his job, he's willing to take radical actions to get things done. And he even has a bad habit of pulling out teeth that shouldn't be pulled out just yet...
Yes, John is a tooth fairy.

There aren't any, as far as I know. You just have to be original and the most important thing is to have fun.
Just post it here, we'll see if it needs colour or not.

I know in the United Statesians go "month/day/year", but a good chunk of the rest of the world go "day/month/year". In Canada we can't seem to make up our mind, so i usually right it out.

Thanks, Willy and Ele! The John McClaine resemblance was purely unintentional, and I don't want Bruce coming after me for likeness rights. Actually, my oldest daughter said he looked like a Bitey character which made me feel all gushy inside.
I'll try to colour him this weekend, but my mom is coming to visit, and it would be hard to concentrate under the disappointed gaze of both her and my wife. I'm probably expected to entertain or clean the gutters or some other slave, I mean husbandly, duty.
That and I'm still learning to digitally paint. Apparently software doesn't do anything for you except eliminate trips to the craft store and reduces the time it takes for paint to dry. My screen's still a little tacky, though....

You no like "John the coked up tooth stealer?" Bleu? I imagine he has that receding hairline from always running his hands through his hair during his withdrawal anxiety.
I really like your concept...Very Steve Buscemi in his bad days...

No, he's a fun design... it's just the teeth/blood thing that makes my own teeth want to scream and run into hiding somewhere XD

Could you make it a bit darker? Maybe my screen is too bright, but it's hard to see anything. :D And do more revisions; try to make the pose more readable. Thanks for joining. :)

I'm still waiting on my nibs, but I found out I could use a toothpick instead. So I cut the tips off and shaved it down so it could fit and it works pretty good. I'll have one up soon.
Pretty lacklustre tbh. I'm basically trying to teach myself as I go so hopefully improvement will be forthcoming.
Btw, some really excellent work in the posts above. Kudos to all. *admires*

Hehe, thanks Daft Wullie. I'm pretty sure I'm of the male persuasion, although others might disagree, heh. I haven't really drawn anything in a couple of years, other than doodling while my mind wanders. I had another go at the concept today, so here it is. Don't have time to colour it properly....
