Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for an animator for a music video. I'm looking for something a little unique- not just comic/cartoon animation. To give an example of stuff I like (but certainly not limited to) check out TRUNK animation. There is some money available but not alot. Please take a read through the following script and see if it grabs your attention. Then please check out the track called "Don't Cry for Babylon" at www.bishopandmulholland.com. If you're interested- please send me (or forward me to) your work so I can take a look. Also, please let me know what you require for renumeration to do the project. The finished project will hit the web as well as (hopefully) TV. The script is a bit flexible. If you're really serious- a sketch of the prostitute on the beast would probably help me see your vision. Thanks for taking a look!

Don't Cry For Babylon
Video Story for Animation

Scene opens with a man in a mountain meadow (not particularly important what he looks like) waiting in a line of other people with a roll of bills in his hand. Eventually he gets to the front of the line which is at a wishing well, at which the people bow three times, make a wish and throw in their wad of cash. The man does the same, except he decides (after a curios look) to look down into the wishing well.

He's pulled down into the wishing well (or falls?) and falls a long ways. He lands in a grassy, hill country with seven hills. He hears something a little ways away and makes his way towards it. He comes upon an enormous marketplace where everything is for sale, from food to household goods to extravagances (cars, jewelry) to slaves. Signage within the marketplace: "consume" "everything for sale" among others.

At the center of the marketplace is an imposing figure- a prostitute sitting on an enormous and ferocious red beast. At first glance she's a beautiful woman- voloptuous and dressed in exquisite garments and jewlery. The woman also holds a goblet of a red beverage, from which she drinks frequently. The people who purchase things (whether bananas or human beings) bring their items before the woman and beast and offer them to her and bow. Most of the time she simply nods her head and lets the people go with their precious purchases but sometimes she beckons with her hand and takes what is offered. Every so often she beckons when the purchase is a human (slave). The beast kills them, and proceeds to eat the carcass with relish. The woman bends down with her cup and scoops up some of the blood for her chalice and drinks- laughing. The blood she drinks from the chalice trickles out of her mouth as she drinks and runs down her cleavage. Whatever this sinister duo do- especially when a human is sacrificed- the people cheer (signs are visible in the crowd: "long live the queen" "babylon forever" )

All of a sudden, the man is gripped by the depravity of the market and especially of the woman and beast. Where once he saw volupteous beauty he now notices excess (almost corpulence). Where he once saw beautiful raiment he now sees gaudy opulence. Where before he saw sensuality he now sees wanton debauchery.Where before he was entranced, he is now repulsed.

He is simlarly repulsed by the martket people. Something tweaks in his brain and the man takes action, overturning the tables of the sellers and wreaking havoc in the marketplace. After turning over a number of tables and driving away sellers, he jumps on a table of a slave trader and tries to persuade the market people of the evil they are doing and that of the woman and the beast. Most of the people are still somewhat hostile but seem unwilling or unable to stop the man or take him by force. A few are even listening with interest.

Then all of a sudden, there is silence in the crowd and the market people part and the prostitue on the beast slowly make their way forward. The woman has a malevolent smile on her face as she stops a short ways away from him. She turns on the beast to a side saddle position, opens her legs without much subtlety and beckons the man to come to her. (all of this is suggested but not seen) After a moment's hesitation, the man turns and flees. The prostitute sends the beast after him and he catches up to the man and pounces on him- driving the man into the ground. As the man enters the ground he becomes a seed .The seed begins to slowly grow roots underground. Even while the rest of the story is finishing the root continues to grow underground.

The beast is furious that there is no corpse for him to feed on him and he needs blood and flesh. He turns to see the volupteous/corpulent prostitute and (having no loyalty)he launches his towards her, kills her and starts to quench his appetite on her flesh. The market people are overcome with grief and sorrow as they perceive a loss of their way of life and profits. Their is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

As the scene slowly zooms out we see three things in progression- the marketplace sign that says "consume", a lamb overlooking the whole episode on a mountain ledge and vultures circling in the sky.

Wow. That's a nice video. I'm not great enough for it but this thread needs bump.

Cool- thanks so much dlpwillywonka. I think with some work it could turn out to be a very compelling anit-materialistic statement.

Great song, too. Argh! I'm just too curious...what kind of time frame do you have in mind for this? Any takers yet? I am interested, but very busy with work and school:blink:

Thanks pixelmark, I'm not at all on a tight timeline. Although as I've been hearing back from pro's and not-quite-pro's- there's a ton of hours involved in this script. If you're interested and you think over the next six months you would have enough time for the project- then I'd love to see some preliminary sketches based on the script.

Thanks for your interest and kind words.

Sorry man, but my plate is just too full to make this type of commitment. I did do a starting sketch, but it took me almost a week to find the five minutes to do this (and I don't even have that kind of time this week! :( ). I'll keep it in mind if things change, but I can't be counted on yet. So sorry.

What you need is to break this down into manageable bits, so that anyone here at the forums can commit to a little part of this project. First of all, you need a director/producer. You need a couple of character designers to make character sheets that anyone can use to further develop the project. Then it would be best if you divided the song in visual scenes or sequences and break the sound file apart in those bits, hopefully, all with time hints so that everyone focuses on the bit she/he or they are responsible for. After that, have someone work on keyframes for every bit, and have others do inbetweens. (of course it can be the same animators, but the whole thing will be divided by "jobs" that everyone who gets involved has to complete, before moving to the next assignment. Or they can choose not to carry on, and simply someone else picks up the next "job")Then you need someone to do backgrounds only, and someone to put everything together. I'm sure I'm leaving something out here, but it's the general idea that counts. If opensourcers do it with software, why can't animators do it with great shorts?
