Hey again.. more junk to throw at you :D
Stroy is: my friends sent me a song they wrote (they're amazing) and i slapped it to this reel... thinking it might be neat to have an action reel... but my concern is that i think it might be too heavy... either way, i like the song.. but in the end, i'd like to know what you think of the mix!
thanks!

reel is excellent.
but i really can't comment on the music since its not the genre of music i listen too anyway *i'm an r&b hip hop guy*so i'll leave that up to others, seems to gel well though.
Thats amazing... like... amazing amazing!!!
Do you mind explaining how you made it... like programs and tools... cause that line is so neat. Im extreamly impressed.
The musics great too...

If you're using the reel to get work I think the music is a bit on the heavy side.
Not everyone likes this kind of music and it might steal concentration from the viewer, I know I didn't pay to much attention to the animation because I was distracted by the audio (I'm not to fond of this kind of music, it wasn't bad performance but my ears hurt from disted guitars).
If it's animation you sell, use some audio that wouldn't offend anyone, like coctail music, it's the animation that is the important part and you shouldn't let it fall on someone not liking the soundtrack.

Damn it, yet another one of Jaki's master pieces that will have to wait til I get home to view. My work PC is a real heap of junk.
Master piece is an understatement.

thanks guys! wow...
yeah, it's all done in flash 4 ( :) ) some symbol stuff just blended in there... we have a system that works pretty good with flash. but yeah, the general response is : "whoa... that's flash?? "
and for the line, it's the hairline... and it's painted. yeah... our crew is really killing themselves to get this thing going right... but it's worth is when you see the final show mixed.
glad some of you liked the song! like i said, it's my friends' song.. they're really getting great, and i thought it would be neat to have it stuck onto my reel :D
later!

i think it was great.
and the musical part. i would say get a wider ear for more music then soft =D
i think it works very well.
plus the appealing part i think isent of what the listener wants to hear casue thats not why u watch it.
imo it was a silly thing to say.
the dude who said the disted guitars hurt his ears..
should maybe see it from more then one perspective.
funny thing is he want JAKI to do the same..
never mind..

i don't think it was silly thing for him to say at all mistchiff, its a matter of opinion.
you have to realise that not everyone has the same tastes in music, but if u have a calm simple beat,ur not hurting anyone, but if u have a heavy beat its gunna be a distraction.
in this case i think it works quite well, but in my honest opinion jaki,i wudn't risk it again.
the fact that u even had to ask whether we thought it was fine or not proves that even you where unsure. ;)
 just my two cents.

I don't think I was silly at all.
A show reel is for selling your animation work, not the music. If you use music that someone may not like, you might not get the job or contract for the wrong reasons.

I watched it with the sound off (because I was listening to the new Richard Thompson which isn't bad at all) so I missed the music. The animation was very well done. I thought it was Flash, but I wasn't completely sure. Nice work with Flash: if people don't recognize it as Flash then you're doing something right.
Do you use shared symbols? Is the animation memory heavy for the net or do you not worry about that and just export to Quicktime? I'm guessing that this style wouldn't stream well on the web, but that also probably doesn't matter.
Cool! :D

Oh Hell yes Jaki. That was some amazing stuff brother. I think, I especially like your style a lot because it reminds me of those old sierra games like KingQuest and Leisure Suit Larry. It's the colors and outlines you use that remind me of those games. Good memories
BTW I didn't have a problem with the music.

I didn't like the music...even though I generally do like that kind of music. Still, I don't think you were wrong to include it - it was a very action-orientated piece, so it's more than suitable, showreel or not. Don't be afraid to show a little character ;)
Music, much like animation itself, is all a matter of taste. You're never going to get anything EVERYBODY likes. If they're the kind of people who would be impressed by your [very cool, btw] animation, they probably wouldn't mind the music either. Who wants to listen to cocktail music while they're watching a guy getting tossed out a window? :D
yeah dont change the music... its full of action.
I really love the subtle things... like the bird taking a step down the sholder when the guy moved... thats is great. and how they jump on the train and zoom away
What do you mean by "and for the line, it's the hairline... and it's painted." ? I understand a hairline but I dont know what you mean by its painted.

Very nice!!! You mentioned that all the lines were "hairline"... will there be flicker issues if you decide to go to video?

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the suggestions !
david: yeah, i see it how you see it... i guess i just wanted to try something out. Thanks !!
ewomack : yeah.. we don't really intend it to be online... it's a tv show, so we need to be able to get the best video quality... and yeah... we have a system that allows us to use reuseable things...
motionmilitia : nope! if you have the right resolution, it's' all good!
thanks again guys !
