Not sure if anyone can use this, but here is an article by Shawn Kelly about tracking arcs in 3D:

It seems like this could be used for 2D as well, either by using his dry erase method or by making an additional tracking layer in the program.
If you don't want to draw directly on your monitor, here's (http://chickenkaraoke.blogspot.com/2006/10/engineering-101.html) a solution I came up with.
