CD 009 : Major Arcana
DEADLINE: November 30th, 2006
You will have to re-design a Tarot card. Since this is a CHARACTER Design challenge, then you'll have to pick a card that could depict one or more characters. The characters don't necessarily have to be human - mutants and robots will do.
The final entry should be in full colour, but I will accept some better sketches, too.
It doesn't have to be in the form of an actual Tarot card, unless you're creating a completely new card (i.e. Broke Salesman).
To avoid more than two entries on the same subject, post the name of the card you will be re-designing here when (or before) you enter. If two of the same cards have already been picked, then you'll have to pick something else.
More info on the cards at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_arcana
The winners of the eighth Character Design challenge are...
1st place
Ben! Again!
You will be awarded with two bronze talent points!

2nd place
Daft_Wullie!
I'll give you one bronze talent point!

Congratulations, Ben and Daft!
And good luck, anyone who enters this one.

I'm in on this too, sounds like we have a lot of room for imagination on this one.

Woo-hoo! I'm not talent-less anymore! Congrats, Ben! Loved the character, and this one sounds like a lot of fun, too.
Woo, first place! I thought this would be about some sort of military wizard from the title. These look fun though, I wonder which one I will do...

CD 009 : Major Arcana
You will have to design a character for ONE Tarot card. It doesn't have to be in the form of a card (format may vary) and you can take the non-human road. Preferably in full colour, but I will accept sketches, too.
I've got a question on this one:
Does it have to be an actual Tarrot card (one you would really find in a deck) or can you make one up like "The Convenience Store Clerk" or "Constipation"?

The original idea was to pick a card from the actual deck and then re-design a character on it.
You can make up your own card, I'll accept it, but then it will have to feel like a real Tarot card. In that case, one of your goals should be nailing the format.
I thought this would be about some sort of military wizard from the title.
Heheh, I always try to think of a title that would leave you guys thinking what the challenge might be about.

Maybe people should claim a card then instead of everyone doing death. I mean, I'm not against everyone doing death, but it might be nice to ensure a little variety. Just a suggestion...

Hah, well, I thought of that.
I wouldn't mind two persons doing the same card though.
Let me refine the rules...
I announced too fast without thinking it through properly.
Apologies. :o
edit Check the first post.
I bags "The Devil".

I might make this a two-week one. Everybody all right with that?
edit Done, and please add more ideas to the suggestion thread.

2 weeks sounds good, give people the chance to produce higher quality images...
edit: here is my initial idea(WIP of course), I chose 'The Fool' I think it is quite suitable.

Here's my new card for the tarot deck:

Hahah, Moose! :D
Sharlston, I can't really find the essence of 'The Fool' in your picture.
Can you explain me? I'm stupid.

No.
It'll make more sense when it's done, and if it doesnt I'll type something up...

It isn't very good because my tablet hasn't been my friend recently. It isn't a card either. Oh well, there's still plenty of time to do another one.

Awesome Death, Ben.
And I don't think it has to be a card. Just if you're making up a new one.
That's the ****, Ben!
I want to see a card version, quick!
Mine should be ready in a few days.

Well before I got married, my cousin took me to a Nudes a Poppin show in Indiana. Where the Hedgehog happened to be.

Oooo, that's really nice, Terro.
What I've noticed in your paintings is a slight inconsistency, I think you should try bolder brushes to block out some form.
Terro
11-25-2006, 08:33 AM
Thanks Ele,
Regarding the inconsistency, I'm still not comfortable with my brushes , I only seriously started painting about 1 year ago. The main problem with her, is that shes not completely finished, just blocked in. Especially on the outlines where she overlaps the clouds.
This one took me almost 3 hours and I had to get some shut eye for work the next day. I figured she looked good enough to portray some interesting character design.
But the contest is not over yet, and I still need tons and tons of character practice. I may bust out custom card tonight if time permits.

nice entries so far!
I revamped my original idea:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/7792/tarotcardc1jq0.png
in case you dont 'get it', the black smudge in the bottom right will be a monk. He just burnt down his home; hence 'The Fool'.

Terro: Saaa--weeeet... I love the light coming off of her and the whole impressionistic quality. Too cool.
Sharlston: Nice start. You have an interesting style. I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with it.
I've been hella busy this month. Anyway I started on it today and it should be ready just in time tomorrow.
WIP of "The Devil".

I'll like to see another fully rendered picture of this character in your art thread.

Agh! They actually started giving me work at, well, work, and, on top of my other project(s), I wasn't able to contribute this time (which sucks because I wanted to do the fool with a drawing of the actual Daft Wullie from the Discworld series...oh well!). I just thought I'd drop in to give my compliments:
Ben: Love it! But I prefer the first drawing over the second since it shows so much more. However, for the scope of this challenge, the second works way better. Awesome character!
Greg: Wow! Just...wow! When you had me model that night I didn't think you'd make me look so good. Just kidding...I always look that good! Seriously, the High Priestess never looked so good! You continue to amaze me with your style. Sorry if I haven't said that before.
Sharlston: The mood you set is just eerie. Keep it up! I fear the fool! What's in the bag, by the way?
King: That is one buff dude! Were you, by chance, influenced by Fist of Northstar at all?
That's it, I think. You've all done an exceptional job, but I'm sure you don't need the likes of me telling you that. Your work speaks for itself...

You can still do something! I'll close this in a few minutes, but that doesn't matter at all.

Uh huh. One of the greatest cartoon series and comic ever made. Real men read/watch Fist of The North Star.
