I went to my friends house the other day who has toonboom v3.0 and he asked me how to use the camera. I tried looking up tuts but couldnt find any. So could someone explain how to use the camera in animations?

Heh Might start at their website :-)

Camera Tutorial (http://www.toonboom.com/products/eLearning/tutorials/tbs/multi.php)

But yea. I haven't been able to find another place. Which is odd. Considering how highly touted toonboom is for having a 3d camera.

I doubt it. People at my job are always surfing the internet. And I still get my work done.

You use the camera like you would as if it's another object within your scene. Like you would with any other object, you'd attach a peg to the camera. You can then use keyframes to change the positions of your peg throughout the timeline so the camera which you have attached to it follows its movements.

It takes a bit of getting used to and remember, the final keyframe on the peg will by default move back to the exact same position as the first keyframe, supposedly for looping your movements. Just play around with it!

You can then go crazy and break open the Function Editior. From there you can fine tune the position of the camera peg within the scene aswell as adding fancy pitch rolls, zooms and velocity to ease in and out of movements. In v3.0 the function editior is very hard to use since all you see is a diagonal line which you can add even more keyframes to and then alter in hopes it does something

But apparantly v3.5 has made it much easier to use. I NEED 3.5! :Blahblahb

Hope this helped :)

isnt the peg the little circle in the middle? If i make it longer nothing happens. How do i apply it to the drawings?? (the help files dont help either)

Have you attached the camera to the actual peg?

Click and drag the title of the camera element in the timeline view into the peg and you should see a small downwards arrow appear on the Peg element.

It took me really far too long to figure that out myself. At one point I ended up having something like 72 individual pegs all attached to nothing!

Heres a handy 2 frame gif to show the difference. Just because I can :D

I don't think I'm entirely sure what you mean but a tip with the camera when moving it around, use the 'Top View' and the 'Side View' panels to make sure you place the camera exactly where you want it. I think it's basically a 3d enviroment your camera is operating in so in the 'Camera View' everything in scene is affected by distance and spacing in relation to everything else so it may look a bit weird when trying to move the camera in that view.

The whole 5 inches below your cursor thing
Not sure bout that, are you drawing in the 'Camera View' or the 'Drawing view?'

Cos when you draw in the camera view, depending on what you've done with your camera, there might be some weird shizz happening. So always do your drawings in the 'Drawing View' to make sure its all good an' proper like!

Are you drawing with a tablet?

i am in drawing view. Lemme explain clearer. Okay... SO i open TBS and click file. When i click file A DOT appears in my drawing screen. In order to open the file tab, i have to right click it, and then left click what i want. SO right click to open left click to select. Whats screwy about this is that, my mouse isnt configured like this. ALso when i draw... The line i make appears 5 inches below where im clicking. Does that make sense?

The only program this happens in?

Might check in Toonboom settings and see if you can find something about calibration

ho humm...I can't ever say anything like that has ever happened to me sorry.
I use v3.0 so it maybe a problem from an earlier version if you're using one. Either that or its a hardware problem? Try searching through the Toonboom help forums. You might find better help there.

AHHH. I can only draw on the left side of the grid. When i go on the right, It gets all screwy... OH could it be an X,Y alignment problem?

Edit: Ok its fine now. i didnt do anything else but use my stylus instead of my mouse, but i bet its not going to last. Thanks anyway for the help

Hi there you all! I'm a new kid on the block! I am enjoying your chat-great
looking Forum-particularly on TOONBOOM. May I say I consider myself a
reasonable 'Spartan' veteran of 2/3 years 'battling' to uncover the wonders
of ToonBoom! One way to deal with the Camera-I find-is to click on the
actual camera line-red-and drag your key set-ups-instead of always doing
the graph thing! You can still tweek the start and finish drawgs and the default 'cushioning' I find fine for most set-ups. It's quicker and versatile.
I may be a clutz or no-one much seems to do it this way! Take care.Oh!-
you still have to 'peg' the cameras first ofcourse!

Admittedly, I know nothing about toonboom, but with that (rather large grain of salt) in mind - I found this that might help?

Scroll down for the qtime vid of camera movement

As a flash user I am really wowed with Adam Phillips' blog lately. Great info!
Near the bottom is a tut on camera movements in Flash with a downloadable file that contains a camera with all of the neccesary AS to drag it around!
