I was watching TV yesterday and they had a interview with the Kid that wrte Eragon. He's literally a kid. He started writing the book at 14 I believe and has been working on it for 8 years. Now it made it to the big screen. Just some inspiration for all you writers out there.

yea i read the book when it first came out and i heard about this. My friends only objection to him is that he basically took the lord of the rings and added dragons. But i think he just used that idea to build off on, becuase theyre no similarities between the two apart from the bad guys being orcs, and the sword/magic fights.

How unoriginal of him. :)
I have yet to read this series. I still need to get through "his dark materials" trilogy and the George RR martin books.
I bought it for my nephew but he's 8 and still plugging along on it.

Haven't read it, probably never will.
Heard it wasn't that good a book though. (my Sister heard the same thing, and gets pissed every time the preview for the movie airs due to hating the series with a firey passion. I find this deliciously ironic because she always gets on my case when I express my extreme dislike for the Harry Potter series.)
Although in all honesty I think we are both just jealous. Why can't we write any crappy ass novel down and have it get really popular and made into a big budget movie? Although hearing that he worked on it 8 years does put better perspective on it. Hell, I might check it out, if only to see if my theory of "any idea no matter how cliche or bad sounding at first can turn into something great if developed with the right principles/priorities in mind and each aspect of it is worked at really hard* is valid.
Although I'll feel sorry for the kid if it turns out he worked at something for 8 years just for it to suck really really bad.

My 11 year old daughter read the book and its sequel before she turned 11, and she has been wanting to see the movie with a passion. However, when I read this review (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30956) I became very wary of taking her. Not because I don't think she can handle the violence. I mean, she saw the Lord of the Rings, fer crying out loud. No, I'm afraid she'll be affected like that kid in the review. Why do studios have to take suck liberties with books? Why can't they learn from the makers of the Harry Potter movies which proves that you can trim a story down and still keep the feelings of the book in the movie? Just goes to show you how important a good screenwriter is...not to mention the rest of the crew, but I'm just sayin'....

I wouldn't worry about it. Only geeks get that emotional about movie adaptations not living up to the media they are adapting.
And it's much less likely for a girl to be a geek than a boy. Especially when she's only 11.
Although that review made it sound like the hack job to end all hack jobs, so I don't know...

Haha... you should ask her how she would respond if the movie was worse than she expects.
Well, if I'm ever going to see "Eragon", it will be for the special effects. The dragons look pretty neat. And I think I'll handle the clichés with laughter...
ps. I wrote a similiar piece when I was 13, but I discontinued before the end, because I am not that good and it seemed like a desperate attempt to create something as awesome as Harry Potter was back then... My story was about a kid who lived in a farm and who had a dragon and after the kid's only grandparent died, he went off to find his father who was... well... bad, but from who the kid had inherited special powers. Sounds like a bestseller, doesn't it?
Only wrote the start, I had so much more planned out. Luckily, it's all gone now. :D

I'm still planning to author a piece in the near future but it's very hard to find the time and inspiration to keep a tight schedual.

The hillarious thing is that it actually does sound like a bestseller. (maybe because it sounds like a direct mix of star-wars and eragon)

Hahah, yeah... and they too had to have a battle between each other. :D
By the end of writing it, I thought it was downright silly, but to think that someone actually did finish something like this and became very rich and famous kind of saddens me.

Which is why I, my sister, and any creative person either of us know are all pissed off about this novel.
Although I too am more sad than angry because I learned that you don't need talent to be sucessful with your creative endeavours. All you need is a desire to expose your work to the public despite how much it sucks, which is my all time weakness since I am so critical of myself and my work. :(

consider this quote about the author... "His book was published privately by his parents through Paolini International, LLC. To promote the book, Paolini toured over 135 schools and libraries, discussing reading and writing, all the while dressed in "a medieval costume of red shirt, billowy black pants, lace-up boots, and a jaunty black cap."... This guy probably lived on a 20 acre estate and had unlimited tools at his disposal. Unlike any other author who has to work extremely hard for their book to be published, paolini just went to his parents and probably said 'lookie what i made mommy'. But unlike any other parent who would take whatever their kid made and put it on the fridge, his parents published his book through their own company. Sounds about right doesn't it?;)

Bah, this book is TERRIBLE! The film is even worse. I wouldn't say it's similar to Lord of the Rings so much as Star Wars. It nearly IS the same story, and I'm not even joking, and it makes me sad, because some of the characters would otherwise be very likeable.
The film rips off Lucas' exect style, using suns and the sky and the sort of control for the setting. The dialogue is worse than the SW prequels. And the kid who plays Eragon needs to be punched in the kidneys just to shut him up.
I admire Paolini's effort and work, but I'd admire it more, maube even LIKE it, if it were any good at all, and at least showed SOME originality.

I'm looking forward to the reviews of the third book. To see if he's going to prove his naysayers that he can write.

I met him two years ago at a book signing. He's a good guy. I admire his passion for story-telling. I read half-way through his first book, but I was too occupied to finish. I thought it was okay, but many younger kids love his work, so, I really have no say.

The film had bad camera views, the main character wasnt good at acting at least its what i think,I never saw eragon training to do a spell,he did it just by doing it,i still think the book is better than this movie thought its always a disgust to people who read the book but oh well lol
I didnt see any elf in the movie or any dwarf i could point off....bleh

The book was crap. Even the promise of ILM and Weta digital doing FX couldn't drag me within 40 feet of this movie. The villian's name is actually "KING GALBATORIX" :Xead: :Xead:
Anyone who uses the name "Arya" when not referring to the Stark should be set aflame and doused in oil. Paolini is the worst sort of hack: a hack with parental connections to publishing companies.
Read George RR Martin and be amazed what fantasy writers are capable of.
