thanks a lot

I concur with Noob, 720 x 540 will work just fine.
I always like working at 600 X 400

Since the output from flash is square pixels and tv is rectangular the resolution to work in is actually 768x540. (768x540 square pixels is changed to 720x540 rectangular pixels in your post processing or DVD authoring software, if you worked in 720 rather than 768 your images would get slightly streched in that process)
If your working in PAL (most of europe) the resoluting is 768x576.
:edit:
And also make sure you're using the right frame rate, 30 (29.97) for NTSC and 25 for PAL.

Was just looking over this old post. Could you Dave, or anyone else, explain what NTSC and PAL means? Thanks:confused:

PAL and NTSC have different refresh speeds and different resolutions and other subtelties. There's a map on the Wiki sites that show where uses what.
I think SECAM (that's the French one) is similar to PAL, there's a wiki page for that too.
But Dang, that info from david rylander is certainly note worthy!

I'm about to start making my final year animation for university, it's mostly being done in Flash and is going to be about 3 minutes in length.
It is going to be shown mainly online, but will also be screened at a couple of cinemas at the end of the course. It will most likely be banged onto a DVD for these, so I was wondering if 768x540 would be the right size to make the movie at as David Rylander said ?
And if anyone else has experience with something like this and has any pointers / tips, anything would be appreciated.
Cheers
Cal

Find someone that has a dvd burner and test it out for yourself. The only way you'll know for sure.
