I really hope this is the right place to post a question like this. I don't want to make a poor first impression. : s

Ahem*

I've started my first frame by frame animation and it's going pretty well, except for the fact that every line I draw appears to wiggle when I play the animation. Obviously, the reason is because each frame is just a little different than the one before it. But I'd like to know if this is something to expect when drawing a new picture on every frame. I mean, is it the norm? or should I be taking much more time when tracing my frames (Onion Skins)?
Or should I even bother drawing a new picture for every frame?

I haven't been able to find any info on the net about animating frame by frame, so I have no clue if what I'm doing is "Right". I just figured that it's the way it's done. Like in Disney movies... The animation is so smooth. I never see any wiggly lines. Is it just an issue with my technique? or is there a certain way to go about doing it?

Any help is good help. : )
Thanks!

It's called inconsistency. It gets better with practice...
Also, if you're doing character animation, then sketch the character through, like... a hundred times in different positions. That might help you understand the anatomy and movement of the character more, decreasing the chance of going wobbly...

How about posting the animation?

And welcome to the forums!

Ahhhh, SquiggleVision... I miss Dr. Katz...

Most likely the problem has to do with your line quality (like I know what I'm talking about :p ).

It would really help to see the animation and understand more of your drawing/animating technique in order to give you a good answer.

But if you're looking for a book to start out with, check and see if your library has a copy of The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation (http://astore.amazon.com/aeonsector-20/detail/0786860707/102-3745985-6188945) or buy a copy through the AF store.

It's not a "how to" book, but it does detail a lot of the techniques used by the studio. Plus, there's some fantastic flip-book animations printed on the corners of the book. Just priceless for studying "how it's done".
