Just starting out with toon boom and have relized that it follows a very tradition animation method of animating and i want to know do i have to redraw every frame lets say i want to have someone move just there arm do i realy have to draw the body again each time just to move there arm? i have tryed copying and pasting the cells but when i edit the second frame it edits the 1st too please help me

hmmm i think ive found away its like flash you cant copy the cell you got to copy it as a new object but thanks for posting henry

Well, if you're animating frame by frame you should select the lines in the drawing view and copy THAT, instead of the cell, because cells always stay linked in ToonBoom. When you have copied, go to the frame where you want it pasted, paste it, and then you can erase or modify whatever you want.

Or you could, like your example of someone only moving his arm, put the body and everything but the moving arm on one layer, and then create a layer on top of that layer and animate the arm on that.

how do you do backgrounds in toon boom? i want a solid coulour back ground so what do i do? thanks josh! oh and also if i want a detailed background is there an easier way to make it on every frame rather than copying and pasting it each time?

to do backgrounds make a new drawing and move that cell to the back. to multiply them without copying and pasting just highlight the cell you want (near the right hand side of the screen) and ctrl + 4 (or apple + 4 on macs). type in the number of how many frames you want to cover and it should do it.
to make a background one colour, just use the rectangle tool, which is in the same section as your brush tool. make the rectangle the size you want and then fill it with your colour. POW!!!!
