Hey crew, as a few of you know I have been working on a script for my own animation for a few months now. Recently a friend of mine have decided to take it a step further and turn it into a game. The main point of this is for people to feel like the animation sequances they watch are a sort of reward and no game does it better in my opinion then Final Fantasy 7. So as of now project GOD will be a combination of a 2D animation movie and a RPG game set in a Fantasy world. It's still in very early stages but the main plot is there. The Title is (Guardians of Destiny) and it's a tale about a boy who is lost with in himself and his journey to find his lost past, seek out his true love, and find the meaning of life. I take a lot of inspiration from my favorite movies and games when I'm in the process of writing my script so I'm going for a hybrid feel of movies/games like ( Blade Runner, Mad Max 3, FF7, Syndicate, Fallout, Kings Quest Series + early sierra collection)

The game will be published in Macromedia Flash (Most likely in version 8 since it has a stronger action script) It will be availabe for online play as well as a downloadable *.exe.

I'll use this thread to post followup information such as character concepts and story informations.

sounds great :D Final Fantasy VII was pure enjoinment, so I think your game will be too. Esspecially story plots which involves finding out the protagonist's past (memories) are very interesting. Planescape Torment, for example.

The programming techniques in ActionScript would be definately informative to look at, lol, can'T wait to see and hear more of your project.

Thanks guys, right now my first steps are to build a real time battle engine in flash to see how the whole thing would play out. Also I ran into a small problwem already , all the original FF& sounds are in midi format. LOL the only format Flash does not support.

There was a tutorial somewhere that told you how to get sound recorder to record midi files when you play them in a midi player. Not sure where it was though, but I'm pretty sure it's easy to search for.
Or you could go with the high end solution and search/download Timidity++
(it converts the midi's while making them sound like non-midis, but I can't get it to work on my XP system for some reason)

Thanks E D C, I ran a search and found out that WinAmp is capable of converting Midis into Mp3's very easily. I was never aware how much options were in WinAmp.

Im not worried about the tweens atm, Im far from animating. At the moment Im working on the engine shell. A big issue will be saving a game using Flash so I have a few options to think about. I'll either go XML or use the flash cookie system for game saves.

On a good note I got those stupid Midi's flipped over to MP3's and Not much else. Here's what I got so far

BTW: DOn;t let the cursor piss you off, it's designed for keayboard controll only. It doesn't work that well with a mouse.
