Yup, all you do is import a JPG, select it , goto the Modify menu and click Trace Bitmap. A box will open up where you can set the options of how it will trace.

Note: If you select to do a detailed trace it may take a long time. Flash takes it's sweet ass time on traces.

so do you still have to clean up the line a lot to import it, and also if your entire animation is brought in this way, would it be a smoother animation than a piece entirely done in flash?

It all depends on what settings you choose for the trace. I use MX and the trace function is not the best. I'm not sure if they improved it in Mx 2004 or in 8.

I think a animation would come out better if you traced it by hand in flash rather then using their tracer. If super easy to trace lines in flash.

Its still crap in MX-2004 Greg. :(
If you use the trace bitmap command, I can pretty much guarantee that every flash user in existance will know that you did. It just doesnt have a decent quality to it, the pic generally ends up blocky... and the file size is upped substantially.

How do you set up tracing lines in flash? And also can you composite in video under the animation? I want a video background.

If (http://www.animationforum.net/forum/member.php?u=38) you would like to see kind of what a traced image looks like, check out Wmic - ? (http://www.animationforum.net/forum/member.php?u=38)'s avatar. Everytime I see it, it makes me think of the flash trace bitmap feature.

Note: I have no idea if his avatar was hand traced or bitmap traced, im just saying that it reminds me of it.

It's easu, lines in flash are not like lines in photoshop. You can completely control your falsh lines as well as have them snap to other lines or grid. You basically make a new layer over the image you want to trace, make a straight line, then manipulate the line to the curve you need and then make another line and so on and so on. It's very fast and easy once you get a hang of it.

So, this isn't traced at all! It is drawn! In Photoshop!
Maybe it makes you think of being traced, but I have drawn this some months ago. (First digital drawing ever)

If your intention was like this (that it only reminds you of tracing), it's okay. I'm just a bit upset by your comment, because I didn't trace this one.

NOOB!

Ohh come on Wmic :Xead: , I stated that I had no idea if it was bitmap traced or not. I do not mean to take away any credit from your work at all buddy, I'm serious and very sorry. But it's a perfect example of how things kind of look after being bitmap traced in flash.

Once again I'm verry sorry for offending you, it wasn;t my itention, I just wanted to give him an exampl and your avatar poped in my head.

I wasn't that much upset, like someone could read out of your apologize. :D
But I respect that you have apologized. No bad blood, terro.

Yes, you stated it. Maybe I've read it wrong. No matter. :)
