I'm sure you've heard the news: Toon Boom Studio version 4.0 to be released in September 2007.
I pre-ordered a copy, and just got an email today about some of the new features and layout. And I must say, it's impressive.
All I know is, I can't wait. Anyone else excited?
hell yes!! I pre-ordered mine as well.
there are some really promising new additions that I can't wait to check out - feathered edges (blurs & smears) new brushes, converting lines to strokes, and quasi-bitmap editing. It's not really bmp editing, but it will let you put image elements into a "vector box" & erase certain parts, deform parts, change colors & such. Also the customizable layout is sweet. A pretty impressive list imho!

I'd rather invest my money toward Toonboom Digital Pro if I ever decide to buy another animation suite!
Toonboom Studio 4 does sound like it would be useful but I'd rather have Toonboom Digital Pro because it has more capabilities! Sure it costs more and has a steep learning curve but that's why I'm glad the Personal Learning Edition of Toonboom Digital Pro is available for free and ready to testdrive!
Hopefully it will be worlds better than Toonboom Solo but I could be wrong!
Anyway for those of you who are itching to have Toonboom Studio 4 I say good for you and I hope you get the most for you paid for;) !

I'm sure this will be their best release yet. The blur capabilities will be huge for me.
I wish they were able to include video additions, for rotoscoping and such, but perhaps later.
Digital Pro certainly looks intriguing, but to be honest, I don't think I can justify needing it yet. For one thing, I haven't come anywhere near maxing out Studio's capabilities yet, so what do I need with all the other stuff that comes with digital pro? Also, while the capabilities it has are impressive, it won't do the work for you - which I think a lot of people let themselves believe. If you can't do simple stuff by hand, then you really have no need of a program with morphing & high end effects. (not you specifically Chilerkle)
I used to do some carpentry, & the guy I was working for wouldn't even let me touch a table saw until I could figure out angles & make perfect cuts by hand. It's the same thing here really. My advice would be to get everything you can out off Studio - build up a body of work, then when your skill justifies it, go ahead & step up to digital pro. Unless you are already getting paid rather well for your animations I just can't see the need.
