Ok i'll give this a whirl. Lip sync is not the funnest thing to but it is a nessesesary evil. Unless ur always going to have ur characters speak os or have thier backs turned to us.

I'll be doing mine in flash as it's the program that i've been working on the most recently and i'll post some updates as soon as i get some web space to upload.

Wish me luck on this one.

Whoo who... ok been awhile. Well what can i say. I finally got some time. So now the way i work is that i really can't animate something till i draw it a bit and get used to it. Normally i would have a good model pack but since this is a challange and for fun. I whiped up this little Dorthy girl here. Now her desing is inspired by another artist who i can't remember his name for the moment but i'll get back to u guys with that. Ok so anyways I fiddled around with the face till i felt comfortable drawing her. I think i can now continue to the next step.

Ok so the next step for me is to listen to the audio track about a billion times and draw up some thumnails of the action i plan on doing. Wish me luck. I plan on doing this tomorrow so hopefully i'll have an update later today... now that i see it's 1:19am :) Ok lates.

Noob. Yeah this is kind of the way i feel comfortable doing it. I've done many a project with out this much research and i find that u end up doing more tweaking than is nessesary down the line cause of no planning. This way i know know how the characters looks like and i should be able to keep her more on model.

Ok as u all know that lip syncing is more than just the mouth moving. U need to put some acting in it so here we go. I once had a teacher tell me that u could animate a character with it's back to u but as long as it moved on the inflections of the dialoge the audiance would know it was talking.

Here r my rough thumbnails of the action i think she should act out. I didn't draw in the end of the ponytails since that's just secondary animation and it cold be done afterwards.

Now i'll just put these in flash and start to finally animate and see how this acting looks to the dialoge. :D

Hey there guy/gals. I in my next step i place my thumbnails to the sound so i can see how the acting is coming out. From just looking at it in this stage i noticed that i had to move one of the poses sooner when she says "and" also the follow 2 poses needed ajustment. Now the other thing that struck me is that in her dialog she sounds more sad that the last pose expresses. She's too damn happy looking in the last pose. So i'll rework that drawing when i get the chance next. Also i think all start to add some more keys like the breakdowns just to flush out the action some. Well here it goes let me know what u guys/gals think. :blink:

HooooYhea!!! I got the stinkin stop and start to work. Man the trouble i went thru for something soo simple. Haha see i can make things move in flash but i suck at action scripts and it had been a very long time since i made a button. Like Wmic "stop" and "gotoAndPlay(1)" but for the life of me it wouldn't work and then finally when i redid one of my old tuts i found that i was missing the "on (release) {......}. And that was all. Good times.

Thanks for all the cool comps guy/gals. I really appreciate it. I'll try and get some time in this weekend to bring in a way better update then my action scrpting blunders. Ahh man i feel this deadline is coming in really fast. :blink:

Hey there gang here is my next update. I've added more rough keys to flush out the action. I also got rid of the last pose as it wasn't working for me. I hope to have another soon as the deadlind looms very fast. :blink:

Oh man... I don't think that i'm going to make this deadline for the weekend. Sorry guys/gals. I came to me as the clock winds down and the night turns darker. Hopefully u all won't hate me if i keep going past the deadline to finish this.

Ok no update for today I don't think that what I got done for today warrents it. I'll keep going at it after work tomorrow and this weekend too. Funny how to me the lip synce part of this is going to be the easiest part. Well at least it seems that way to me. Well right now. I'll probably be bitchin when i get to that part too. Thanks Walker, yeah i'm not too worried about the actuall lip sync part of this. I'm more worried of weather the acting is more convincing and that will sell dialoge way better.

looks really great,i know ur focusing on the acting part too,but remember this is a lip sync challenge after all,lets see at least one mouth movement hehe.

and if u don't make the deadline,u can still continue in the wip forum.

btw when did i say the deadline was,this weekend or next weekend,i've gone confused myself,my head is full of so much information at the moment

Hey there gang.

Long time no post, well i really don't have any excuses other than the holidays and work. So i'll get back on this bad boy and finish it up as soon as i can get back to it. I did tho take a break to draw up a sketch of a painting i would like to do but that is a whole nother story.

Hey Songspinner i'm glad u like it thus far. Its a combination of both but mostly alot of hand drawn especially if i want it to look more lively. :D No pain no gain right.

Woooo hooooo I've gotten pertty far on the redo of this. I've animated all the motion but haven't cleaned it all up yet. Oh and i have yet to creat the mouths. I wanted to post an update last night but my brain had shut down, that and i havent added the button for it to shut up. So as soon as i get off of work i'll head on home and get that taken care of and post. :p

Alwrity gang here is what i have done thus far. I animated the whole movement of the figure but haven't finished clean up. Still in the process. I'm alot happier with this vesrion as it feel to me alot smoother. I'll try and post tomorrow again with the next progress. Of if i can't till the next time its worth showing how much i've done. Noob, man i hear u about the repetativeness of it. That's why u got to luv it to do it man, and especially if ur just one man as u have to it all. Haha just can't had it off to ink and paint. The timing guids help alot too as a guide since i'm lazy and am not doing an x-sheet :o

Nelson, i'm a animator as a small start up company called big bad tomato. hahah. It's cool here cause i get to touch on everything and do alot from traditional 2d, flash and 3d. It's fun. Even tho sometimes the projects r boring as hell, but hey thats why they call it a job right. :D

Well i didn't get much done last night but Noob u'll be happy to hear that i did build a set of mouths. So part of dorthy already is talking. They need some adjusting so when i get home today if i'm able to get further i'll post somthing. :D
