Hey guys I have to make a short film for my application for school and I m curently thinking about the "story" I want to use for it.
Here are two concepts I came up with so far and IŽd love to kno what you guys think of them and if you have any suggestions.

Animation Short concepts

Concept number one
the Dreamer

Some boy (about 10 years old) is walking through a modern but very dirty steampunkesque city. He arrives at a big square where he is able to see the entire city in front of him.
All of a sudden fiery asteroids start to fall down from the sky and he realises that the world is about to end.
He quickly jumps into a huge poster with a picture of a beautiful island.
He falls through the clouds but is kind of floating/flying.
He lands on the Island and walks through a think beautiful jungle with Maya / Easter islands kind of ruins.
He arrives at the beach and sees the earth exploding in the sky

Fin.

Concept number two
The man in the moon.

A boy (about 10 years old) lives by himself in the jungle in his tree house.
He goes out to find some food and has a nice day.
When he gets back home in the evening he sits up in the tree branches watching the night sky.
Than an asteroid falls from the sky and he goes to find it.
As he arrives he sees the asteroid lying on the ground and as he gets closer a bright fairy kind of light figure comes out of the asteroid and shoot into him.
He starts to float and later on flies up into the sky and up to the moon.

Fin

So yeah give me some CnC please

They're both cool ideas, but they're both also going to be very forgettable if your excecution doesn't just perfectly bring the life right out of em.

You're going to need to have some really brilliant colour choices to make these work just right,

thanks for the input man
its appreciated
I guess I agree with you that they are kind of forgetable but I want it to be visual appealing
so story isnt as important especially since I have to keep it kind of simple since I only have three months and have to do everything on my own

since you talked about colors
here s a first quick inspirational I just did took about 25 minutes and gives you kind of a clue what it might look like
ofcourse more polished than this

That's gorgeous! That's exactly what I'm getting at; scenes like that are precisely what's needed to make this a really memorable piece. That just oozes with magic!

Both are interesting, and if they are visually inspiring (as the rat said ;)) They could really be great. I really like the image you have so far, I think you are definitely on the right track.

If I had to chose one over the other, I might chose the second one, I like the fairy light idea. It adds a lot of interest. :)

Also, if you need music for this, let me know. ;)

Haha, I like them both equally. I'm a steampunk nut, so there's that as something that really grabs me, but the fairy light is great too, as Matt mentioned.

Also, Matt I think would be a great choice for the music in this as well. He's got this great sense of bewilderment and the fantastic in his music that would really suit the tone of these stories.

I think one thing the icky-city one has over the all natural one :D is that it has an extra setting to explore, it could add an extra level of interest and it adds another mood too. Maybe you could have the asteroid hit on the ground somewhat close to the character (in the city), then the fairy-lights could come out and carry him into the picture... :D

I donno, I'm just throwing out ideas.

Hey guys thanks a lot for the input its much appreciated and I m glad you like my little painting too.

I think I came up with a solution.
My biggest problem was that I wanted to include all these cool things in the movie but I struggled to put them all in there and keep an interesting stright forward kind of story.
So while brainstorming some more I came up with the idea that I might aswell create several shorter shorts with no real story but just show off different ideas in different genres etc...

I think this is a pretty nice way for me to get to do all the things I want to do without worrying about the story anymore.

So I ll probably do
-a pirate short
-a vimpire hunter short
-a jungle kid short
-a sci-fi kind of short and maybe some others
I mean I wont do them all but thats the list of things I m interested in to do

I ll keep you updated as I get more done

OHH and tallsmartman I listend to some of your music and have to say I m very impressed
I d love to work with you on some of these if you have aim or msn let me know maybe we can discuss it some more there

thanks again

That's a cool idea. Sort of like a demo reel, but for a concept man or something. And it would be such great way to show off some fantastic environments!

Hah, I'm really excited for this now.

Though if your animation is as good as your backgrounds, yours will look much better.

I have an idea for an short that I have had on the back burner for too long. I'll send it in a private message
