CD 19: Bring Out Your Dead

Halloween is a time for grisly ghouls and vicious brain-eaters to wander our realm. But what if a beast of the Undead was late for Halloween? That's what has happened for Urgal Pettle. He overslept Halloween and now has landed on regular Tuesday in November. No one seems interested in him and without his fellow zombie buddies, he doesn't feel like running amok. What's a zombie to do?

Requirement: No real requirement just Urgal and his confusion. You can decide what country he is in (although I know some don't celebrate Halloween, just run with me here).

Here's an initial sketch, had a couple others I didn't like as much, so I'll probably stick with this one & try to develop it. Not happy with the quality of the image though, looks fuzzy & crappy, but no biggie on a rough sketch I guess.

Thanks Willy, I actually changed the eyes a bit, he did look stoned/tired, but for a zombie his eyelids were a little too defined, or so I've been told by the resident zombie expert in my house ;)

This time I went on the other extreme & removed the lids alltogether, & just tried to make them look sunken in. He still looks kinda dazed tho. one pupil is a bit bigger than the other too.

Anyway, still just a floating head, but body will follow. Any crits & comments welcome, particularly on the color selection. I must've changed the colors on everything 15 times.

Hah. Nice Ben. That large one on the left is lol quality. I can just see his finger swirling through brain sauce or a puddle of something similiar. Apathetic to his day out and about.

BAM! I still need to shade/highlight and add a background, but I'm so hungry right now. I'll get to that part later.

I'll go back and add soem sores and other zombie-like things as well, once the main colouring is done.

Yes it is. It's Veteran's day in the US and they don't have the whole Lest We Forget thing as far as I know. I don't even know if they use Poppies... they're a Flanders' Fields thing and that's a Canadian poem.

But why does everyone always choose green for zombie skin colour? Come on - diversify! And think different zombies - like the zombies in 28 Days Later - now THEY were cool... and they could certainly move!

Well, to be specific, there aren't any zombies in 28 Days/Weeks later. They're still thinking, calculating, living, breathing human beings who are driven by the virus to a mad rage leaving them wanting blood on their hands, so to speak.

Danny Boyle has stated he hates when Days is referred to as a zombie movie, because he says it isn't. Just some info.

And green for the skin colour? Well it's just cool.

I'm not entirely sure they could. However, zombies also have a special place in the hearts of voodoo practitioners which is very different from our mainstream zombie fetish. Check out the movie The Serpent and the Rainbow. It may answer some of your questions.
