At his first meeting with Central Florida leaders since being named chief executive, Walt Disney Co. CEO Robert Iger said the company is poised to enter another renaissance period in animation which will eventually pay great dividends.

During the event on Walt Disney World property Thursday, Iger said he is committed to returning Disney to the glory days of animation, which many believe ended after 1995's "The Lion King," according to Local 6 News.
Iger believes the acquisition of movie company Pixar and its new movie "Cars" will once again make the Disney the industry leader.
"Over the last 10 years, our animation has been a little more erratic in its performance than I felt it needed to be," Iger said. "We really believe we are poised to enter another renaissance period for the Walt Disney Co. in animation, which is something that will pay great dividends."

"Putting quality over quantity, Iger promises that Disney will emphasize creativity more than ever before as seen on the new ride Expedition Everest," Local 6 News reporter Mike DeForest said.
"We are extremely focused on allocating our capital in that direction above all else," Iger said.
During his trip to Central Florida, Iger called Walt Disney World the company's most important business.
"He wants to continue to invest in these assets to make sure they stay long-term and robust, continue to grow and take advantage in the business opportunities that are out there," Disney President Al Weiss said.
With Iger at the helm, Disney's stock has grown 20 percent in 2006 with profits continuing to climb, the report said.
"I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the bump up in the stock price in the last quarter," Iger told the audience at Thursday's event.
Iger also met with several thousand Florida cast members and received a standing ovation after the meeting.
"One cast member tells me that she had goose bumps and a newfound pride for the company she works for," DeForest said.

yeh i heard they where doin 2d animation again, but not a feature,i think they are just doin a short.

I wouldn't worry about that anyway,i can't tell u the number people still doin
2d animation, once sumone is brave enough to make their own company it won't be a problem, yeh it would be cool of disney bought it back for sure, but disney doesn't speak for all animation in the world.

disney doesn't speak for all animation in the world.

yeah, just the united states.

the only reason I hope Disney goes back to doing [good] 2-d is so that 2-d starts making money again, opening up the market and proving that the US can do 2-d without shipping work overseas.

I don't like their work post Lion King, and even pre Lion King I ain't the biggest fan- I hear they treated their animators very poorly. Fingers crossed that Lasseter and Jobs can make some changes for the better now that Eisner is gone and they're basically in charge.

yeah, Tarzan was awesome!
But I also realy liked "Lilo and Stich" and "emperors new groove" alot.
They were two great movies that realy felt different compared the the usual disney productions(in a good way. And also, they didnt include any singing or musical numbers. Wohoo!!). Definatley the most funniest disneymovies I've seen also.

(And the animation in "Lilo ans Stich" is so damn smooth and consistent it hurts!^^ In the "behind the scenes" you can see the producer notice that the eye of Lilo is moving a few micro millimeters away from the nose in just one frame, so he asks the animator to fix it. (hardly noticeable at all))

(f-ex In "the little mermaid" Ariel's facial features are moving out of place all the time. It just shows how extra nitpicky they were on keeping the characters "on model" in L&S)

Tarzan is one of my faves too. I also remember seeing the Lilo and Stich dvd "behind the scenes" feature too.

yeh some people are a bit too picky com, they pick at stuff that the audience wouldn't even notice.

I must say though,i like 2d just as much as i like 3d,this forum wasn't make to be a 2d vs 3d thing,it was more to gather people who have an interest in 2d and to make more of it.just giving a heads up,i don't want this to turn into an anti 3d forum is all.
:p

I would like to do just as much 3d as 2d,but obviously i come from a illustrative background,so 2d is always going to be my preference *character animation wise anyway*

I saw a trailer of Bambi 2 today. Seams awefully two-dimensional. ;)
I knew they couldn't hold it for a long time.

But then there's the huge amount of 3D animated features coming out. Hoodwinked, Over The Hedge, Cars, The Wild (in other words Madagascar rip-off), The Ant Bully, and all that. Everybody thinks, 'we can do that too' and they do it. Poorly, but they do it. People are getting sick of 3D already.

Bambi 2 has great animations and backgrounds but is way too short and lacks a real plot in my opinion. Disney used to make moviedd that appealed to a large audiance. Kids seen one thing, adults another. They seem to lack this style now, hopefuly it will come back once they get their stuff together.

Hercules was '97 and I love that movie. James Woods as Hades was probably one of my favourite villains of all time, let alone in an animated feature. On par with Jeremy Irons' Scar I'd say.

Oh, and The Wild started pre-production about a decade ago, being written and reviewed in the early script stages. It isn't a Madagascar ripoff at all. That's like saying Romero ripped off the early Dawn from his recent remake. First seeing the trailers and what not I instantly assumed "stolent" but I read reviews and links to interviews and saw that it's been around for quite some time and was at one point going to be live action even.

I'd love to really see a new Disney 2D animated feature. My girlfriend and I spend our weekends simply sittin in my room watching old Disney VHS flicks. Lion King and Aladdin are two of our favourites, but we make an effort the watch everything. We're both artists, actors, writers, and she want's to maybe try animation, so these are always new everytime we watch them, because we've grown in relation to them in way beyond age.

That's all I have to say! :p

Okay. But I'm sure they didn't plan to go CG 10 yrs ago.

Oh, I'm sure they didn't. I'm just saying that it's not actually a Madagascar rip-off.

I absolutely adore 3-d, most especially Pixar's stuff (o course,) but I'm sick and freaking tired of anthropomorphic animals with celebrity voices getting into hijinx. Freakin enuff is enuff. Sorry had to get that out there. Making them cars instead is no excuse either.:Blahblahb

Anyways, Bambi 2? There's a sequel to Bambi? Jeez.:Xead: I sure hope Disney turns it around. Anybody see Lion King 1 1/2?

Yah me neither :)
