LOS ANGELES - The Securities and Exchange Commission has recommended ending a nearly year-long inquiry into DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. earnings without taking enforcement action, the company said Thursday.
The company said it received the notice in a letter from the SEC's Pacific Regional Office. The inquiry concerned trading in DreamWorks securities and the disclosure of its financial results on May 10, 2005.
After the market closed on May 10, 2005, DreamWorks reported lower-than-expected earnings on disappointing DVD sales for "Shrek 2" and "Shark Tale."
Earlier in the day, DreamWorks' share price had plunged after Newsweek magazine reported the company had told its employees it would miss Wall Street earnings projections.
Newsweek said the news was delivered by DreamWorks Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg in a meeting the morning before earnings were made public at the company's Glendale, California headquarters.
A DreamWorks spokesman had no comment on the SEC decision Thursday.

Meh DreamWorks can go bankrupt for all I care.....seriously. We had a visiting representative from there European dept and she was so unnecessarily arrogant it was funny. She even mentioned how she had a really hard time Getting the good animators (from Europe) she found to go work for them, basically because they all knew DW was **** and didn't want to work there. The very idea that having lots of money is what makes a good film is just so counterproductive.

Damnit, why did you have to get my hopes up?
And here I thought I wouldn't have to deal with my family being so "omg" over how "awesome" shrek 3 will be.

I thought to first Shrek was awesome as far as animation quality, and OK in story. But the second one was just cr**. Pixar will always be the best in 3D no matter what. But since Pixar only does one film every so often, Dreamworks seems like the best. And compared to "Doogal" and "Hoodwinked" anything would seem like the best.
DreamWorks will always be considered competition for Pixar because they release more films than Pixar and then they'll release a big one like Shrek 3 and get people talking about them again...then they'll release a few more crappers and then another big film.
Pixar releases a great film and then spends a while thinking and developing and then a year or two later they'll have another film ready for release. Which is great, because all of their films have all been great. And they don't release crapper films just to make money.

Hmm. Seems like a lot of people on this forum have a real downer on Deamworks in general and Shrek in particular. Well, I thought Shrek 2 was brilliant entertainment, and Dreamworks seems to be the only studio who could even contemplate matching Pixar at 3D -- and competition has to be a good thing, right?

One would hope so right? Although these days i'm not so sure. It's not realy possible to truly compete with Pixar by mimicing there output and dreamworks have a bad history of relying on demographics to make there points (wiether intentionaly or not, it still seems to happen). I think the animation dep probibly started out as a nice idea (for example hiring out Ex-patriots of Disney) but in the end became more of the same. And now that Pixar/Disney have started to recoup themselves i'm not realy sure what hope there is for dreamworks without some mind bogling re-assesment (they certainly can't beat pixar at it's own game as they are trying to do right now).
