This blog will be strictly for keeping tabs on production of specific projects I'm working on. I will post all concept art, general ideas, and chracter designs here, and try to keep my random sketches & such for my Art Gallery thread.

I hope you enjoy what you see here, hopefully it will help keep me motivated. Crits and comments are both encouraged & welcome!

Another BG WIP

Posted 03-18-2008 at 12:30 AM by kdog
Here's another BG I'm working on. Been playing with lots of different brushes & I like where it's headed. I'm also getting much more comfortable with Painter, which is nice.

Anyway, let me know if you see any horrible areas before I get too far with this... What do you think of the water?

Here's a link because it's quite huge.

Hey Pat, really like this background, really nice colours and composition on it, only comment is about of the reflection of the threes on the water, looks cut and floating on the air

You need to reflect more (colours and forms ) of the ground on the water or vanish the contrast of the trees refelected on the water. I´m think the first option is better, because the water is verey reflective in that angle. Try to "blur" or "smudge" a bit the reflection to put a more water look. I dont know if I explain correct.... but... whatever (hahahahaha I´m in a bad mood this day hahahahahaha, and love that expression, reacall me Final Fantasy VIII and Squall Leonhart )

Thanks, Ferx.
Yeah I messed with the relection quite a bit trying different blending tools, but I was dead tired & didn't find anything that suited me last night. I'll keep playing with different brushes & such til I find something I like. I might even get a better look with a lower alpha on the trees reflections, who knows..., but I will surely keep trying til something works. I'll post another update when I get some more details on the ground & work on the relections more, but I'm glad to hear you like the overall look. I'm having a lot of fun with this one.

...which expression? You mean my little pic or something else? I forgot I even had that pic on here, think I uploaded it when I first registered & it just kinda showed up as my blog avatar when I started this...

I had similar problem with ArtRage, that is not finding an equivalent of dry blending brush. Painting clouds and water reflections are difficult without this. Instead i tried soft blending of pallet knife tool. It is sort of OK but not entirely satisfied.
