Tomorrow Brave hits theaters in the US! I wanted to make a thread about it to see what people think after they watch it. I'm very curious. Some early reviews have been pretty mixed. I saw it in an advanced screening Tuesday and my own feelings were pretty mixed. I did a review of it, if anyone is interested to read: http://www.skwigly.co.uk/a-brave-2012-review/ (It is spoiler free as long as you skip the "Synopsis" section, which is labeled so you can move to the next section.)
So who's going to see it tomorrow? Anyone already seen it?

I'd like to say a few words about Brave and also about the movie path Disney is taking with John Lasseter chief art direction (I hope I don't go offtopic).
Aside from taking the name of the first character (Merida) from a city nearby my home in Spain , and saying first that I haven't seen the movie, I must say that Disney is producing many movies per year, not like in the old days. This way each movie passes like any other movie, they are not focusing on creating masterpieces, they are just making movies and movies and more movies and they don't care about perfection anymore. They are like a factory more than an artisan workshop. They are even don't giving a damn about music. Music has been one of Disney's powerhorse engine all the time. Especially in Disney's golden renaissance era (Aladdin, The Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid...), winning oscars and making music hits everytime. Perhaps the tv business is going well these days for Disney, but I must say that aside from a couple nice movies they have recorded these years, the power of a Disney movie is dulling due to movie saturation and less use of music. And aside from this, I can't say a word about Brave because I haven't gone to the theaters to watch it LOL. ![]() |

It's interesting, in the 90s Disney films the music was often on the radio. It seemed to be more prevalent in society as a whole. Meanwhile the music of Tangled, I think, was in no way bad, but you didn't hear it outside of the film at all. I think that makes a big difference, how many times you hear it.

I loved it, being that im from scotland and finally an american made film of sorts anyway with actual scottish accents and actors unlike usual sterotypical attempt at my accent. I also loved the in scottish jokes like the one character no one knows what he saying typical weegie lol (glaswegian).
The animations breathe taking and the narrative definately has falre of lasseter in it. We know longer have to sit through sexiest drivel deliverd by disney boring snoring story machine forumual. We have a strong female character who for once has both parent alive, both of which re loving parent. We have an ending wher she doesnt need a man and they stick to this. Unlike disney failed attempts before at feminst hero with Beauty and the Beast, dont get mer started on that one lol. Anyway i found film fun, funny, very scottish and animations wise for computer animation breathtaking

I thought Pocahontas was one of the strongest of Disney princesses And Jasmine was also one tough cookie with a badass tiger. It is so true about the music, but I also think the quality, importance and cleverness of the music has dwindled immensely over the years. I think brave was great and but I like What J.K. Ricci stated in his article about how the three sons. He was talking about how they didn't belonged or more appropriately weren't bound by the physics the rest characters abide to. So in short I think they escaped from Warner brothers Toon studios to plague disney for their sins of sub par music.

I was actually a bit dissapointed with Brave. I'm not saying it's a bad film, but it had so much hype as if it was going to be a huge epic adventure, and I just don't feel like it delivered that.
But I loved the short that came with it, with the kid sweeping stars on the moon. That was fantastic. |
