Default How to become a successful animator

I'm going to go to Algonquin college for the animation program next year after high school. Ever since i was young I wanted to draw Disney movies. what else do I need to do to get a job there.

Make a short film, a REALLY REALLY GOOD short film!
If it takes you your whole time in college, make it good.

Pixar (and Disney I think) care more about someone's showreel than what education they've done.

Here is what you need to do.

One: if you can go to college and live off of loans, do it. The more you can study your craft the better you can be.

two: Make short animated films. seriously, make as many as you possibly can. Just keep cranking them out. What? party going on? Sorry bud, you gotta animate.

three: Recharge your batteries, go talk to some of the Im-like-the-idea-of-me-being-an-animator-but-I-never-put-in-any-effort people only to recharge your animation batteries and get back to work.

Four: You must live for the student showcase (student film festival) if there is an animation assignment in the class, you have to be the best animated film. Make at least 2 really really good animations per year

five: If you are not animating, you should be drawing, if you are not drawing, you should be thinking about the other two. If you are not doing all the above, you fail.

Stay tuned here. I am in the process of interviewing a former member who has hit the big time. He'll tell you the horrors and successes in climbing the animation ladder.

Sound advice - thank you
